About the circular Global Forever set: The first stamp in the Global Forever series was issued on January 28, 2013. These new stamps simplified international mail by offering a single stamp for all international destinations. The international rate stamps could be used on one-ounce letters sent overseas and two-ounce letters to Canada. To differentiate the classes of Forever stamps, the Global Forever Series are round stamps and have the word “GLOBAL” printed right on them. New Global Forever stamps were issued for rate increases, and a few were also issued picturing holiday symbols to bring cheer to international mail.
History the stamp represents: Every December, the porch gets its turn. The tree goes up inside, but it’s the door that greets everyone first - a wreath hung at eye level, a string of lights along the railing, maybe a lantern or two glowing against the snow. It’s one of the oldest rituals of the season: dressing the entrance to a home so that anyone walking up, family or stranger, knows exactly what time of year it is before they even knock.
The wreath on this stamp captures that same instinct, even though it never hung on an actual door. It came together on a craft table with care and attention to detail. Photographer Natalia Kostikova painted every ornament by hand, then reached for baking soda to stand in for snow - dusting it over the branches until the wreath looked like it had just come in from the cold.
All that care was aimed at something that would never sit on a porch - this wreath was built for reach. It covers one ounce of international postage for good, no matter how rates climb in the years ahead, making it the stamp worth reaching for when the holiday card you’re sending has the farthest way to go. A daughter overseas. A grandson stationed far from home. The people you want to reach this season, however far away they are.
