Get Two Mint Wine Revenue Stamps – Mount and Album Page Included

Now you can own a Series of 1941 6 7/10¢ and 10 1/5¢ Wine Revenue Stamps in mint condition.  Revenue stamps are hard to find, but Mystic is happy to make them available to you.  And these stamps come with pre-cut mounts and an album page picturing the stamps.
Mystic was able to acquire these stamps in 2006, when the Smithsonian National Postal Museum sold surplus revenue stamps in a controversial move.  Museums seldom ‘deaccession’ their collection, but the Smithsonian made an exception. Many stamp collectors were excited for the opportunity to add rare and usual stamps to their collection.  And the stamps were in mint fresh condition.

Illegal to own in 1941

Wine stamps paid taxes on wine.  The government strictly controlled the stamps to stop fraud and tax evasion. Wine stamps were affixed to the bottle, case, and even rail tanker, so mint stamps were very rare. In addition, strict regulations made it impossible for collectors to own them before 1954 – by law, the stamps could only be sold to proprietors of bonded wineries, storerooms and field warehouses.  Even when the stamps were made available to collectors, it was difficult or impossible to find mint copies. High face values also made it expensive for even wealthy collectors to purchase examples – in 1942, the $3,000 Wine revenue stamp cost the equivalent of $40,100 in today’s wages!
We were delighted to buy these mint stamps in 2006 to offer to stamp collectors.  The 6 7/10¢ and 10 1/5¢ Wine stamps are in mint fresh condition, never hinged, and are ungummed as issued.  Start a new collecting adventure or add to your Revenue collection.  Place your order today.
