Launched on March 8, 2001, STS-102 brought the second Expedition crew to the International Space Station to replace the members of Expedition 1. These crews remain at the ISS for an extended time.  The Expedition 1 crew flew in Discovery during its return flight.  The mission was the first to use the Leonardo, a Multipurpose Logistics Module built by the Italian Space Agency.  The astronauts performed two spacewalks, including an almost nine-hour walk that was the longest ever taken until December 2024.
