STS-108 was launched on December 5, 2001, and returned to Earth on December 17, after flying almost five million miles. Endeavour carried the Expedition 4 crew to the International Space Station and returned with the Expedition 3 crew. While at the ISS, the crew attached the Raffaello multi-Purpose Logistics Module to the station to add storage for additional equipment and supplies. They also performed maintenance tasks on the ISS. The flight was the first space shuttle mission after the 9/11 tragedy. A flag found near the site of the World Trade Center, first responder badges, and 6,000 small American flags were among the tributes flown on STS-108.
