1998 Schönbrunn Palace
UN Offices in Geneva

In 1998, Schönbrunn Palace was designated a World Heritage site by the United Nations, and thus became not only the property of Austria, but the whole world. As a World Heritage site, the palace was recognized for its significant historical legacy.

Since the sixteenth century it has been the cultural center for the country, playing host to such historical figures as Napoleon Bonaparte and Amadeus Mozart. In fact, Mozart gave his first concert in the Minor Room and had his famous contest with Salieri in the Orangery.

Due to the combined efforts of the United Nations and the member states, the beauty and integrity of Schönbrunn Palace will continue for future generations.
