The Mozambique Company was granted a portion of Portuguese Mozambique to develop. The company was given a 50-year concession to work the land and was required to settle 1,000 Portuguese families and provide education. In return, Portugual would receive a portion of the profits and shares in the company. After it didn't hold up its end of the agreement, the concession for the company was not renewed in 1942.
