This stamp was issued by the Cincinnati City Delivery company. Owned by J. Staley, the service was established in January 1833 and delivered letters, small packages, and circulars within the city of Cincinnati. Within a few weeks of beginning the service, it was shut down by the government because of competition with the US Post Office Department.
About 25,000 stamps were printed, and around 5,000 were sold for use. The remaining stock was sold to collectors.
